10:29 pm - House update

Ok ok, it has been more then a few months since I have posted any updates. The basement is coming along well. My travels to see friends have slowed me down but hey that is ok. Going out east was great, got picked up by John at the airport and had a great talk on the way out, to see two good friends in PA I have not seen in some time (Mike and Merve), w/ John's help again I got to meet 2 other good friends in PA who helped me out of a timing jam (Brian and Rick) thanks guys, and then went to Chris and John’s place to end the week, my good friend Rus came up to see us there, it was great. Oh and there was a few day computer training class in there too. Then cam IML, that was ok, got to meet some people I have talked w/ for a bit and got to meet a few new people so that was good. Air show season started up then, have been to only 2 so far, but looking forward to more. So the basement work until last weekend was mostly an hour here and there on weeknights. Jason and Robbie came up from chitown last weekend and made a huge dent in the trash, we filled up the Honda Element and still had more I took out on trash day.

This past week I have been hitting it hard and heavy. I finished the lighting, the railing, the ceiling in the main room, and installed heaters.

How ever when I started to finish the bathroom (yes that is part of the project too) ceiling it just was not working, so this 4th of July weekend I have removed the entire ceiling, again, and am starting over from scratch. oh well… what can ya do.

05:18 pm - Basement progress update with photos

Ok some people want to see walls w/ primer on them. So be it here you go ;)

Actually i am very happy how it is looking. There are a few areas that if i had seen before the drywaller left i would have had him fix but i tell you most people will not see it at all. So here are the photos of it w/ out the lights and primed. It has come a very long way from the beginning.

So as of today all the main color of the room is finished being painted. The TV area needs one more coat and that will be it. I will be able to hang the lighting, rewire the outlets and switches tonight or this week depending on time. I will also be able to start to hang the drop ceiling this week or next weekend now that I am not going to MI (unless I go to the UP Munch, they have invited me for my friend’s last much since they will be moving to Madison, WI then I will be in MI just a different part). When i get more done in the room i will update again.

11:23 pm - Ok, quick update on the basement

Ok, it has been a bit since a basement update (heck an update for any reason really). I had a contractor come and finish the basement drywall. He taped and mudded the areas needed and then prepped the walls for paint. I hate to say it but the primer looked ok as a color but I wanted something a touch lighter so it was good to use as a base for that. He also added sand to the primer so it has a nice texture. I have taken some photos of after it has been primed. I missed out on taking some after the mudding and before the primer, oh well… I will post them soon.

Today I bought the paint and finished most of the basement. I hope to have the rest finished Sunday. I will take photos of that too when it is dry and the lights are back up on the walls. As soon as all the paint is done I can start back on the drop ceiling, ceiling lighting, and finally pick out flooring. There be light at the end of the tunnel.

08:56 am - Lasik = I CAN SEE

Day late but it happened. There was a problem with the laser on Thursday but was fixed Friday morning. So I am a bit upset about missing a 1/2 day of work for nothing but at least i did get the house cleaned up more. There was not much pain involved in the entire procedure other when they made the flap on the left eye. I guess there could have been some more antistatic in it. They did enough for when the lasik took place. The lasik was kinda odd but it was fast. I could see nothing during it just a very very fuzzy red dot then it got clear as the laser fired but then went black. Then they had me lay in a nice chair for 30 min. then i got these ski like goggles and was sent home w/ a bag of candy and a nice plant. We will see how long it takes me to kill that one lol. So there was some pain after, and they gave me some good pain killers for that. And the only issue i had last night was making it dark enough yet light enough to put eye drops in. This morning i am a bit less light sensitive so that was easier. As you can guess i am writing this in bed... i love wireless, but I can read my 12" iBook with out a problem, i can watch TV and read the ticker even. Things are good. I am very happy so far, but I should get off this and get something to eat. Then i get to go to the Dr for follow up.

10:30 pm - Few updates (Drywall, Chicago, Lasik)

Ya i know that is a few different topics but hey i have been busy :P

Ok, tonight dad was over and we finished putting up the last of the drywall. My goal to have it up by the time i have lasik was achieved. This is still later then i wanted but with travel, my back, and waiting for my back to hear for said travel that just ate up the time. Also finished is the removal of that blue carpet. All of it is piled up in the corner and will have to be removed before I can have the room mudded. After that is done I can work on the ceiling again and order flooring. Such excitement! lol

My trip to Chicago was good, though VERY long. It turned into an 18 hour work day with all the delay caused by traffic and the seminar running over by an hour. I learned a lot about color and color correction on computers and printers so it was well worth it. How ever next time I WILL get a hotel room the night before no matter what work says. I also really missed seeing my friends. I did not plan well, and Randy pointed that out to me so next time will do better and maybe be able to see Randy, Scott, Joe, Jason, and Robbie. I miss my Chicago friends.

Lasik will happen this Thursday (Feb 16th) at 1:30pm. I am excited yet trying to keep things low key and a bit nervous too. It will be real nice to see again with out glasses, it has been since the 4th grade.

09:07 am - There still are good things on TV

I just got into work and when looking at my news feed site digg.com I came across this link. http://onegoodmove.org/1gm/1gmarchive/002814.html#002814

This was from last night's (1/31/06) Countdown show on MSNBC. If you don’t know Keith Olbermann has been going after Fox New's Bill O'Reilly and pointing out errors in facts (ya i know there are allot) that Bill makes. Nonetheless Billy used his "Talking Points" to go after MSNBC and Keith... here is the response. You may want to know where the pause button is... Enjoy

02:56 pm - A few different things on the house

You know some times it is just frustrating working on a major home project. The boxes i put in for my lights are too large and of course I find this out after i put up a sheet of drywall. So back to the hardware store to find what i need to fix the one and prevent the problem on the other. I am also looking for a box for my light switches and no one seems to have what i am looking for. Might have to go online for that.

07:19 pm - Demo is done

Well after 5 hours of work with Dad's help all demolition to the basement is done! Also cleaned up all remaining junk and all that is left is to bring the 20 linear Ft. of barn wood to Habitat for Humanity so some one else can use it. It is a great feeling to have that done. We also picked up all the supplies to finish the drywall part of the project. It is very good to see things rolling on that.

09:57 pm - Work has restarted

Well after a long time off (due to back issues, demands of friends to be good and not work on it until after MIR, one heck of a bad cold, and the holidays) I have finally gotten back at it. Thanks friends you guys where right to make me not work the back is much better, yet last night after moving sheet rock it is sore again, oh well. I have the drywall up on the areas that you all saw before. It is looking nice as you can see. No mud on it yet, I will hire someone for that project.

These last two photos are of the area left to work on. I started to remove the barn wood tonight. But there is a long way to go and a few heavy things to move that I will be getting help for.

08:38 pm - There be progress

Have just taken some photos of the progress so far. The drywall is up on 2 wall areas as you can see. The area around the stairs is done both the visible area and under the stairs. There is insulation under all the drywall to help deaden the sound.

The is one more area to drywall ready. I am starting on the wall that had the fake brick and beach mural, the framing is done and the pink foam insulation is going in then more drywall!! JOY!!! Ok i am not a huge fan of hanging drywall, but it has to be done. The back is in a lot of pain so I am holding off on anymore work for a few weeks until after MIR. I need to be healthy for that as much as possible.

oh and one can never have too many drills ;)

10:37 pm - In the beginning there was…. a nasty looking basement

Ok ok, some unnamed people (reddywhp) have been after me to start posting here. So I figured why not (at least to get him off my back) ;) hehe. Anyway, I have been working on my basement a lot and friends have wanted to see how it is coming along.

http://www.wiredforflight.com/House/P1010016.JPG

This is what I started with. On one wall you see the lovely mural of a beach, going right into a fake brick corner. Why this was here I have no idea. The rest of the main room in the basement is finished with rough cut barn wood. So I have to say this combo is NOT my fav and it is coming down.

I started in the wall with the fake brick and removed that and keep working though the beach. I then removed the closet that you see w/ the funky door. I wanted more open space since this room will mainly function as a TV room when done (well that and other things as you will see later). After a good # of trips out to the dumpster I had a well messy basement but open walls that really made it feel like progress was being made.
